Topic: The Extraordinary Dentist ……..Why Your Patients Love You

Speaker Name: Dr. Marvin H. Berman

Our world today is fraught with uncertainty. People are less trusting, so it requires more effort to win a patient’s confidence and respect. Drilling and filling skills do not necessarily make a successful dentist. The chairside and desk-side manners displayed by the dentist and the staff can make or break a doctor-patient relationship. It’s what you say and how you say it and it’s what you do and how you do it that create an atmosphere of credibility.

The world of computerization has further distanced us from our child and adult patients to the extent that the healing touch is almost non-existent in many practices. Utilizing his live action videos and movie clips,

Dr. Berman will explore a wide range of office situations, clinical and personal, which will ring all too familiar.  Extensive emphasis will be placed on the administration of local anesthesia….the defining moment between dentist and patient.  A most entertaining  educational experience that will add a new dimension to your professional and personal lives  and prompt your patients to say “thank you”.

Topic: Infection Control in Dental Practice: 2009

Speaker: Dr John A. Molinari, Ph.D.

Accumulated knowledge describing the risks of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human immunodeficiency virus infection, tuberculosis, and other occupational infections have increased both the awareness and efficiency of health care infection control practices.  These and other infectious disease challenges along with appropriate prevention strategies, are considered in light of current scientific evidence.

The most recent guidelines for infection control in dentistry will serve as the framework for the presentation.   The application of aseptic technique principles and standard precautions for the treatment of patients is re-enforced throughout the session.  Evolving issues including patient and provider allergic reactions to latex, strategies for control of dental waterline contamination, and respiratory protection against aerosolized pathogens are also emphasized.

In addition, updated information regarding appropriate vaccines for health care professionals, instrument reprocessing protocols, heat sterilization modalities and monitoring, protective barriers and disposable items, evaluation of available products and their application in disinfection procedures, as well as other areas of concern, are considered in the context of developing technologies.  The overall objective of this presentation is to provide the most recent scientific and clinical information to assist dental professionals in the application of effective, practical infection control.
